our story : the founders

Rolf Lohmann, a travel photographer, initially came to Bali to capture its natural beauty, but the island called him to create his legacy. What started as a simple desire to photograph nature turned into the development of Pondok Sari, a place now recognized worldwide. Pondok Sari was once barren land, but through hard work and vision, Rolf transformed it into a small paradise in Pemuteran, blending traditional Balinese craftsmanship with the surrounding nature. Pondok Sari became more than just a resort; it was a living masterpiece crafted with love and precision.

Here, Rolf found peace, diving into Bali’s underwater beauty and advocating for environmental preservation. Yet, on February 4, 2013, while photographing the icy landscapes of Iceland, Rolf tragically passed away. He left behind Pondok Sari as a living legacy—not only for its visitors but also for Bali’s culture and nature.
Rolf Lohmann’s legacy lives on at Pondok Sari, a place that continues to operate with the spirit he left behind—uniting nature, culture, and people in perfect harmony.

The resort began with Rolf’s vision, joined by his local partner Malik Tarigan, to create a serene haven that captured Bali’s natural beauty and culture. After Rolf’s passing and Dipo’s in 2019, the torch was passed to the second generation, Rizal and Vitus, who continued to uphold their vision with dedication.
Now, the third generation of the Tarigan family is poised to carry the legacy forward with Lohmann family, ensuring a smooth transition. The commitment to Rolf’s spirit is a testament to the family’s enduring dedication. Pondok Sari remains not just a resort but a living symbol of familial love, unity, and a shared desire to offer a piece of paradise to the world.
